No.1 Test bowler in the world Ravindra Jadeja has dethroned Shakib Al Hasa to become the top ranked all-rounder according to the latest ICC Rankings. Jadeja performed brilliantly in the 2nd Test against Sri Lanka and ended up scoring an unbeaten 70 in the 1st innings and then bagged another five wicket haul during Sri Lanka’s 2nd innings. This is for the very first time in his career Jadeja has occupied the numero uno status in the all-rounder’s department.
Jadeja has 438 points while his partner Ravichandran Ashwin is not far away with 418 points and is occupying the 3rd position. Jadeja has been a standout performer for India especially with the ball in hand and has been a lethal weapon for Kohli in the past couple of years or so. He has been a consistent bowler for India especially in the longest format and has given his team crucial breakthroughs during important junctures of the match.
He was just behind Ravichandran Ashwin as India’s most successful bowler during India’s long home season which saw them beat New Zealand, England, Bangladesh and Australia. Jadeja emerged as the leading wicket taker during the series against Australia which happened to be the toughest one for India. The hosts were given a tough fight by the Aussies but India eventually won the series by a 2-1 margin.
Meanwhile, centurions from the 2nd Test Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane have also gained rating points and are currently in the 3rd and 5th position respectively. Both played an excellent brand of cricket in the 2nd Test which enabled India to post a mammoth 622 in their 1st essay. Pacer Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav have also made notable gains and are currently ranked 20th and 25th as per latest ICC Rankings.
Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja was adjudged the Player of the Match in the 2nd Test for his brilliant all-round showing. He doesn’t have many variations with the ball and likes to keep it simple but is the most accurate bowler around. Hardly you will see Jadeja spraying the ball around which makes him a potent option against any batsmen.
