Australia’s mercurial all-rounder Shane Watson was the most expensive player to be bought in the 2016 IPL Player auctions. The former Rajasthan Royals player was bought for 9.5 crores by the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Watson can offer a lot to the Royal Challengers as he can open and bowl some decisive overs in the middle.
Post the auction, the management of the Royal Challengers released a statement in which it was mentioned that they were pleased to have Watson on a board. A key member of the RCB management also said that Watson despite his cost, was a bargain buy.
“He is what we were looking for and I think we got him at a bargain price,” said Amrit Thomas, RCB director. “We wanted a quality all-rounder and we got him at a good price. His recent form shows how good he is,” he said.
The Bangalore side, led by India’s test captain Virat Kohli has a well settled and destructive batting unit. From the bowling front too, the likes of Mitchell Starc and Samuel Badree lead solidity. They indeed are one of the favorites to lift the crown.
