Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Dinesh Karthik is in for some serious trouble. The wicket-keeper recently has been made the butt of the jokes for his poor performances in the IPL despite a heavy price tag. But this time around, the situation is far more serious.
The wicket-keeper was charged 20% of his match fees for getting into an altercation with on field umpire Kumar Dharmasena. The ugly altercation took place in the Sunrisers and the Royal Challengers game in Hyderabad. Constant drizzles made life incredibly frustrating for everyone in the ground and the players were left with no choice but to adjust to the playing conditions.
During the last few balls of the Sunrisers innings, Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli was seen getting animated with umpire Dharmasena. Kohli was furious regarding the fact that the game was not stopped despite a wet outfield, which made things tough for the fielders. As soon as Kohli stopped his animated conversation, Dinesh Karthik chipped in.
Karthik was furious at Dharmasena and the two carried on till they reached the dugout. Karthik had to be literally pulled back by his teammates.
According to a media release issued by IPL, “Match referee Roshan Mahanama found Mr. Karthik guilty of the level 1 offence (Article 2.1.8) of conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game. For Level 1 breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.”
