The PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) has made two changes in 15-man squad of the Asia Cup 2016 and ICC World T20 2016 after injuries struck the Pakistan squad.
Pacer Mohammad Sami and opener Sharjeel Khan replaced Ruman Raees and Babar Azam for the two back-to-back upcoming multi-national tournaments. Right-handed batsman, Azam suffered a fracture in his left forearm during a training session in the PSL while left-arm pacer Raees suffered a grade one hamstring strain.
Azam has been advised around three to four weeks rest while Raees is working to regain his fitness. Both the players will not be able to play the upcoming T20 tournaments, so PCB decided to be replaced them.
Pakistan chief selector Haroon Rasheed stated, “After having looked at the performance of the players in the PSL, the selection committee along with captain Shahid Afridi and head coach Waqar Younis decided to include Sharjeel Khan and Mohammad Sami as replacements for injured Babar Azam and Ruman Raees respectively for both Asia Cup and World Cup.”
On the other hand, PCB included batsman Khalid Latif only for World T20 who will replace Iftikhar Ahmed after the conclusion of Asia Cup T20.
Rasheed said, “Since we have options available to bring in changes in our World T20 squad before the support period starting from March 8, 2016, it has also been decided to use this option and include Khalid Latif, who showed tremendous display of power hitting in the PSL matches. Khalid Latif could not be made part of the Asia Cup squad due to some technical reasons but would join the squad for the World Cup.”
