Here is the list of Top 10 batsmen from India who have scored the highest runs in an single innings against England in England. 38 Centuries have been scored by Indians in England, the lastest one has come of the bat off Murali Vijay, who scored 146 runs in the ongoing test match.
Despite playing a brilliant innings Murali Vijay’s innings of 146 does not make it to the Top 10. Here is the list of Top 10 batsmen to score the highest against England in England in test matches –
5) Vinoo Mankad – 184 Runs – This match was played way back in the year 1952. India were trailing by 302 runs when they came into bat in the 3rd innings and thanks to Mankads 184 runs India could 378 runs. With leaving just 76 runs to win, England won the match easily.
4) Ravi Shastri – 187 Runs – This was a do or die match for India as in the 3 match series India was trailing 0-1 and were playing the last match. Ravi Shastri scored a tremedous 187 and got good support from Kapil Dev who also scored 110 runs. India managed 606 in 1st innings. India was also able to force follow-on against England but they batted extremely well in the 3rd innings and the match ended in draw and India lost the series 0-1.
3) Sachin Tendulkar – 193 Runs – This was an other excellent innings that we witnessed in Indias tour of England in the year 2002, another being that from Rahul Dravid. This match saw one of the biggest victories of India against England in England. India one this match by an innings and 46 runs. This is the only match where in a single inning 3 Indians have scored a century. Coming into bat first India scored 628 runs thanks to 193 from Sachin, 148 by Dravid and 128 by Ganguly.
2)Rahul Dravid – 217 Runs – This match saw huge runs being scored. England coming in to bat scored 515 runs and the top scorer being Michael Vaughan with 195 runs. India’s opening pair was dismissed cheaply but at No.3 came Rahul Dravid as a Wall for Team India. Wickets kept falling from another end at regular intervals but Dravid continued to bat. He scored 217 runs making sure India was way ahead of being forced to play follow-on. India scored 508 and the match ended in a draw.
1) Sunil Gavaskar – 221 Runs – This is one innings that the little master would never forget. The match was being played at Oval and in the fourth innings India had to chase down 438 runs to win the match. In a match where India could only manage 202 runs in the second innings, 438 was a huge ask. Sunil Gavaskar and Chetan Chauhan opened the batting and the opening pair batted till 213 runs when Chauhan got out. But Gavaskar continued batting and got out after scoring 221 runs whereas the team score was 389-4. But no other batsmen after him could play well and the match ended as a draw as Indias final score was 429-8, being short of 9 runs from winning the match.
