We all love cricket matches which are high scoring right? Where batsmen from both the teams will hit loads and loads of fours and sixes and entertain the fans.
Well if a match has to be high scoring, it depends a lot on the cricket ground too. A smaller ground with a batting friendly pitch can enhance the scores of the match extensively. So here is a list of top 5 grounds in India which act as a heaven for batsmen :
1) M.Chinnaswamy stadium, Bangalore
Chinnaswamy stadium is considered to be a batsman’s heaven. A short boundary and a relatively flat track facilitates the batsmen heavily and is considered to be a batsman’s heaven. There is very little, rather almost nothing for the bowlers in the pitch, neither spinners nor pacers get any help which mostly results in high scoring matches.
Remember the very first match of the IPL in 2008, where the little dynamite from New Zealand, Brendon McCullum scored a smashing 158* from 73 balls is a clear example to justify the claim.
2) Wankhade Stadium, Mumbai
A historic ground for the Indians, where MS Dhoni lifted our second World Cup trophy, is also one of the high scoring grounds in India. The red soil used to prepare the pitch gives the wicket considerable bounce. Previously spinners used to get decent turn, but with the advent of the IPL, the turn quotient has been reduced to propel the scoring of runs. The ball comes nicely on to the bat which due to which the batsmen have been able to clear the long boundaries of the ground.
3) Eden Gardens, Kolkata
One of the most iconic grounds of the world, Eden Gardens have always suited the batsmen over the years. Although the Eden wicket assists spinners, batsmen have always scored loads of runs here. How can we forget the epic partnership between Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman which resulted in India’s victory against Australia, where India came back from behind to outshine the Aussies. If that is not enough to satisfy, then we have Rohit Sharma’s world record ODI score of 264 off 173 balls against Sri Lanka on this very ground !
4) MadhavRao Scindia Cricket Ground, Rajkot
The small ground dimensions and batsman friendly pitch have been responsible for some enormous scores being produced in this ground. New Zealand scored 349/5 in 2001, India scored 387/5 in 2008 but the best ever was in the game between India and Sri Lanka on 15 Dec 2009 when India scored 414 runs (then highest ever in Indian history) but Sri Lanka almost won the contest and ended up with 411/8, just 3 runs short.
Although very few matches have been played over here, but most of them have turned out be be extremely entertaining as far as cricket is concerned.
5) Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad
Another high scoring ground owing to its small size, batsmen have always enjoyed batting on this track. On this very ground, Sachin Tendulkar produced one of his career’s finest ODI innings of 175 against Australia, as Indians were chasing a huge total of 350 but ended just 3 runs short ! The IPL teams have always produced formidable totals while batting in this ground and hardly we have seen low scoring matches.dia which act as a heaven for batsmen :
