Mumbai Indians batting first scored 172 with the help of Nitish Rana’s 70 while Rohit Sharma and Jose Buttler scored 30 and 33 respectively. Gujarat Lions got off a terrific start as they lost opener Finch for none on the board. But Suresh Raina and Brendon McCullum’s partnership helped Gujarat Lions to win the match and qualify as the second of IPL9 for the playoff. However, Gujarat Lions lost three quick wickets in the form of Suresh Raina (58), Dinesh Karthik, and Brendon Mccullum (48) was scalped by Jasprit Bumrah,  Vinay Kumar, and Harbhajan Singh respectively. Gujarat Lions defeated Mumbai Indians by six wickets and 13 balls remaining.
