Virender Sehwag has emerged out as the front-runner for the post of Head Coach of Indian cricket team, a report in NDTV suggests.
All the progress all round the day on Monday suggests so, as Sehwag was the only man who personally attended the interview. Rest, Ravi Shastri, Richard Pybus, LalChand Rajput and Tom Moody attended the interview via Skype. Phil Simmons, one of the strongest contender in the race, didn’t appear for it, as he was not available for the interview, which is deemed to be the prime reason for the delay in the announcement of the coach. Though CAC in their press conference suggested that they need to tell Virat Kohli about how a coach operates but the unavailability of Simmons is also one of the factors why the appointment of the coach was delayed.
Now looking at what happened yesterday ( 10th July), is safe say to that Sehwag will win the race, as he was present there in person. Reports suggest that CAC was very much impressed with his power point presentation and his future plans for the next two years. Not to forget that Indian skipper Virat Kohli himself urged Sehwag to apply for the job, which automatically puts weight behind him. Last but not the least, with Ravi Shastri, again choosing to appear for an interview via Skype, it again raises questions over his commitment and surely the same thing CAC would have taken into consideration, as last year too his commitment towards the job was questioned when he preferred to appear for the job via online medium, rather than coming to the place himself. Ganguly himself indicated about Sehwag being preferred for the job when he said that we need to talk to Kohli. If Shastri was the preferred choice, then surely in no case Ganguly had to brief Kohli, as they share a good rapport and Shastri is Kohli’s favourite but it looks like there is a big change in the scenario and Virender Sehwag will end up the race as the ultimate winner.
