After India began strongly in reply to Australia’s first-innings lead of 87 runs in the Bengaluru Test, the visitors badly needed a breakthrough to stop the hosts from taking command of the proceedings. Virat Kohli’s men were well-placed at 70 for 1 in the second innings with KL Rahul batting on 40 while Cheteshwar Pujara playing on 12.
But Nathan Lyon seemed to have given the Aussies the much-needed wicket when he uprooted Rahul’s leg-stump.However, Australia’s delight soon turned in despair as the umpire rightly called it a dead ball. The incident occurred in the 22nd over of India’s innings.
As Lyon ran in to bowl the next ball, Rahul pulled out of the delivery by backing away outside leg stump just as the bowler was about the release the ball.
The Australian spinner did not abort the delivery though as his ball went on to disturb the timbers. But it did not make any difference as the batsman had pulled out of the delivery much before the ball was bowled and the Aussies could do nothing but express their frustration.
