Lasith Malinga. The name famous for his slinging action delivering some absolutely brilliant Yorkers. Imagine facing those toe crushers and now imagine standing upto the stumps keeping wickets to a Malinga yorker.
It was the South African Davy Jacobs who tried putting up with this risk. It was during 2011, the fourth season of Indian Premier League playing for Mumbai Indians captained by Sachin Tendulkar. Against the Kochi Tuskers Kerala at their home ground, Wankhede, Mumbai Indians were heading towards a loss. Brendon McCullum was cruising with a fantastic innings. And Malinga was set to bowl his last over. And by that time, McCullum had set his sights in and was in the mood to play his innovative ‘Ramp Shot’ lofting over the keeper’s head once the ball pitched.
Captain Tendulkar introduced his strike bowler with the wicket-keeper standing up to make him play that shot against Malinga bowling his trademark delivery, Yorker. And it just took one ball to get the result as Malinga produced what was expected from him, a Wicket.
