West Indies have announced a 13 member squad for the 1st Test match against New Zealand. It is a series of 5 Test and it begins at Sabina Park on June 8.

Dinesh Ramdin has been appointed as the captain as announced before which led Darren Sammy to retire from the Tests. Chris Gayle has made it to the squad after undergoing a surgery and will be all set to play his 100th Test Match for West Indies. But Dwayne Bravo missed out due to an injury issue.

The squad saw the return of Jerome TaylorKemar Roach and Sulieman Benn. Taylor last played for West Indies in November 2009, butrecently returned in competitive cricket in Jamaica against an Ireland side.Kemar Roach last played in March 2013 and was injured and had to miss several tours.

Shane Shilingford also made it after he was cleared by the ICC over the issue of his action. His action was reported back in 2013. But, he cannot bowl in “Doosra” as it is still illegal.

Sulieman Benn last played in December 2010, after which he was removed both on the accounts of form and discipline. The famous incident was when Gayle had to send him out of the field as he was not obeying the captain’s orders.

But the biggest debate has been the elimination of Sunil Narine as could not attend the training camp by 1st of June. This might cause a rift between West Indies board and BCCI.

West Indies have not been performing very well in the International scene, especially in the longer version. They were humiliated by the Kiwis in their den and might be this may bring out the best out of the Windies.
