There are some absolutely stunning rivalries in cricket, that just transcend generations, and which remain immortalized in the history of the game. One such epic rivalry was between Australia’s pace spearhead Glenn McGrath and India’s very own Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. When these two faced each other, the world watched with sheer amazement and fascination. The most interesting part about this rivalry was that both the legends were equally dominant towards each other. There were situations when McGrath foxed Sachin, and on other occasions, Tendulkar simply thrashed him.
One episode of this celebrated rivalry was witnessed during the ICC Knockout Trophy 2000 in Nairobi, when Tendulkar simply demolished McGrath. India batted first and against a strong Australian lineup, it was essential to post a big total. In order to post a big total on board, a solid start and foundation was needed.
Tendulkar did just that as he provided the Sourav Ganguly led side with a rocketing start. Tendulkar played as though he was batting in a completely parallel world. McGrath, his respected counterpart was treated with utter humiliation. Tendulkar played an array of strokes on McGrath’s bowling and those were some breathtaking shots.
The Little Master even advanced down the track in order to thrash McGrath. It was among the most brutal assaults from Tendulkar, directed towards any bowler.
Tendulkar might not have scored a lot, but his blistering start provided a solid base for India. From there on, the Indians never looked back and simply crushed the Australians. Below, is the video of Tendulkar’s breathtaking assault.
