The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Friday, announced the squad for the limited-overs series against England, starting January 15. From Yuvraj Singh to Rishabh Pant to Ashish Nehra, everyone made the headlines but the comeback of the Punjab lad was probably the biggest news of the day. Well, why not? The Man of the Tournament of World Cup 2011 was back in the limited-overs frame for the first time since 2013.
While selecting the team for the upcoming series, selectors paid special attention to the performance of players in domestic cricket, the only reason why Yuvraj was able to make a comeback in the squad. Speaking about the same, chief selector MSK Prasad said, “We should appreciate the way Yuvi has played in domestic cricket. He played some fantastic innings, he got a double hundred, he got 180 in the Lahli wicket. We appreciate it and have given him a chance.”
Yuvraj scored a total of 672 runs in five Ranji Trophy games he played. Having a close look at the squad, it looks like selectors adopted horses for courses strategy as Indian team need a spinning all-rounder in the team. Yuvraj will be a bonus for the team as he can chip in with some crucial overs at almost any stage of the game and it can be clearly seen that he has replaced Suresh Raina in the squad.
The limited-overs series starts from January 15 with the first ODI to be played at Pune.
