What happened against Australia in today’s ODI will go down as one of the big events in the history of Zimbabwe cricket. It was only the second time in their history that Zimbabwe managed to defeat Australia, and the first was the first time Zimbabwe faced Australia in an ODI when Duncan Fletcher was awarded the Man of the Match for his all round show.
Australia never looked comfortable against Zimbabwe, after they elected to bat first after winning the toss. With the pitch assisting the spinners, they always looked under pressure. In the early part of the innings, only Micheal Clarke looked comfortable , though returning from an injury and was not cent percent fit for the match. Seam William dismissing George Bailey was certainly a high point for the Zimbabwe with the bat. Though, Brad Haddin had a significant partnership with Micheal Clarke and the some late order blow from Ben Cutting ensured that Australia crossed 200 run mark , and task was certainly going to be difficult for Zimbabwe. Prosper Utseya, Tripano and Williams picked up 2 wickets each.
When Zimbabwe came out to bat, all tehy needed was a good start which they got until they lost 2 quick wickets , 1 at 42 and the other at 44. The 3rd wicket partnership did swing it in Zimbabwe’s favour, taking the score to 100 and then followed by a mini collapse , with the score becoming 106 for 5. Teh problem being that every one got start but no one went on to make it big.
It was then left to Prosper Utseya, the hero with the ball to help his senior partner , Elton Chigumbara to take it home. Zimbabwe won it by 3 wickets with 2 overs to spare. Chigumbara was awarded the Man of the Match
