Manchester City who are in the midst of every competition in the top flight of English football will be hoping to give the perfect send off to manager Manuel Pellegrini who is set to leave the club at the end of the season.
With Spanish maestro Pep Guardiola in line to take over the Etihad franchise, there are a lot of changes to the squad expected before the start of next season.
Keeping in mind the fame of the manager, here are 5 possible transfers that Manchester City might compete in the next transfer window:
1. Sergio Busquets (FC Barcelona):
The 27 year old broke through the Barcelona ranks under Guardiola and has now gone on to become one of the best defensive mid-fielders in the world of football at the moment. Though his contract at Barcelona runs till 2019, the Spanish international has hinted at a move to the Premier League and told ESPN Deportes that he could be tempted to move to Manchester City because of the incoming boss Pep Guardiola. As much as he would love a reunion with Pep, it is hard to see the Catalan giants let go of one of the most influential players in their current squad.
2. Dimtri Payet (West Ham United):
Arguably the best transfer of the season in the Premier League, Dimtri Payet has helped the Hammers to a 6th place in the Premier League so far this season and has also taken the club into the 5th round of the FA Cup. However, recent reports suggested that Payet’s agent has asked for a more lucrative deal after the end of the season and it is understood that the player is also in search of a bigger club even if it is in the Premier League. This has put the Citizens on alert for a possible move in the summer transfer window. Payet is a technically gifted player and will slot into Pep’s side easily but it is to be seen hoe badly the manager wants the player to be a part of his squad for the next season.
3. Mario Gotze (Bayern Munich):
The scorer of the only goal in the final of the most recent FIFA World Cup, Mario Gotze is one of the most sought out players in Europe at the moment. He has found it hard to break through into Pep’s Munchen side on a regular basis and is said to be keen on a move away from the club this summer. However, it is highly possible that the Spanish manager might take the player to the Etihad along with himself to start a new adventure in the Premier League. But given the injury history of the player in recent times, Pep may be inclined towards another attacker in Europe.
4. Leroy Sane (Schalke 04):
Recent reports from Germany suggested that Schalke attcker Leroy Sane who is one of the hottest properties in football at the moment has declined a contract extension with the German club and that he is on the verge of signing for Spanish giants Barcelona. However, it is understood the Pep Guardiola has his eyes set on the young forward who is valued around 40 million. Champions League football under Guardiola may be too hard to turn down for the 20-year old and if he completes the move to City, long term suitors Liverpool and Barcelona will be left with a sour taste in their mouth.
5. Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich):
Described as the most professional player by Pep Guardiola, Polish striker Robert Lewandowski is supposedly a top priority target for manager when he makes his move to the Premier League. Guardiola is understood to be keen on brining the Bayern striker who has scored 19 goals in 19 games this season in the Bundesliga to Manchester City to give him a chance to shine alongside the likes of Aguero and Silva in the front line. The likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid are also linked with the player but the relation between Pep and Lewandowski might just help the Citizens pull this move before the end of the summer.
