Much was made of the story when Radamel Falcao started a game for Manchester United’s Under-21 side. Looks like Louis Van Gaal is ot worried by the boo-boys as he has decided to ask his other star striker Robin Van Persie to gain some much-needed fitness by playing in a U-21 game.
Robin Van Persie along with Johnny Evans, Rafael, Adnan Januzaj and James Wilson are in the starting XI for Man United U-21’s game against Leicester U-21 side later tonight.
Van Persie has not featured in a professional game since 21 Feb while Johnny Evans marks his return to the game following his controversial spitting incident against Newcastle’s Pappis Cisse.
MUTV have tipped Tom Thorpe to start in midfield tonight’s game. Arguable Thorpe was United’s finest defensive prospect from the academy but over the years, his role in the United has constantly changed which has seen the likes of Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair move ahead in the packing order at Manchester United.
The game offers crucial playing time for Van Persie and Evans to regain fitness and stake their claim for the starting position in United’s next league game against Everton. Manchester United need their star striker to be fit in time so that Van Gaal could feature Van Persie up front ahead of out-of-form Radamel Falcao if Rooney plays in midfield like he did in the game against Chelsea.
Man United U-21 team to face Leicester tonight: J Pereira, Rafael, Blackett, Thorpe, Kellett, Evans, Love, Goss, Wilson, van Persie, Januzaj.
