One of the stories of the winter transfer window this season has finally reached a conclusion as it was officially announced that Alexandre Pato is subject to a medical before finalizing a move to the English giants Chelsea.
Chelsea have been lack luster even after the chance in personnel at the top of the club and are languishing in the second half of the table just a bit more than 6 months after lifting the Premier League trophy in the previous season.
But Guus Hiddink who was appointed as the interim manager is yet to lose a game and is starting make his mark on the squad with Pato just a step away from becoming the 69-year olds first purchase in his second stint in London.
Pato is set to join the club on a loan deal and expressed his happiness over playing for one of the top clubs in Europe.
The Brazilian is now in London for a medical ahead of his move and though there has not been an official announcement from the franchise, Pato made it clear that the move will soon be finalized.
The out of favor Corinthians forward spoke to Sky Sports ahead of his move to the Premier League.
He said, “I’m so happy. I stay here for my dream. Chelsea is my new home. Thanks to Chelsea for support. Thanks to my fans for support on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
“I need to play. I don’t know what to say because I’m so happy. I’m very anxious [to play] and I want to know my new friends and players in the team. I really want to play in Chelsea.”
Pato was regarded as one of the best talents in Europe at a tender age but the 26-year old failed to live up to the expectations with a number of injuries hampering his progress.
He joined Corinthians in 2013 and spent the 2014-15 season on loan at Sao Paulo had a consistent season where he scored plenty of goals which has seen him subject to a rumored move back to Europe.
Pato who has 28 caps and 10 goals for his national team will be paired up with Diego Costa and Loic Remy and will have to fight for his chances in the up-coming games.
The Blues have been rather busy at the fag end of this transfer window with an official announcement that mid-fielder Ramires moved to Chinese club Jiangsu Suning in a 25 million deal.
