David Luiz and Diego Costa never crossed path at Chelsea, Mikel John Obi has warned the defender to ‘play nice’ with the striker after returning to Stamford Bridge.

Luiz arrived at Chelsea in a shock deadline day transfer having previously left the west London club for Paris Saint-Germain in 2014.

Costa arrived at Chelsea that summer and developed a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most dangerous – and aggressive – strikers following a string of goals and controversial incidents.

Luiz clashed with Costa during Chelsea and PSG’s Champions League last-16 clash in March last year as the French champions advanced on away goals, and also the previous year while Costa was at Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea midfielder Mikel welcomed Luiz on Twitter while joking that the defender should watch his step given Costa’s reputation, writing: “Welcome home @DavidLuiz_4! Remember to be nice to Diego #Carefree #KTBBFH (Keep The Blue Flag Flying High)”.

Luiz won the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup in his first Stamford Bridge spell, but is targeting more silverware this time around.

He told Chelsea TV: “I think this is the past [his previous three trophies won with Chelsea], I need to win again. I am hungry to win.

“Of course I want to win the Premier League, but of course, I want to win all the other titles [Champions League, Europa League, and FA Cup] again.

“I’m here because I have the ambition to play for a big club and when you play for a big club you need to think about winning every single match.”
