According to Italian media reports, Premier League giants Arsenal are closely linked with ex-Real Madrid winger Jose Callejon, who currently plays for Italian Serie A side Napoli.
The 28-year-old winger had reportedly expressed his veiw on leaving the club this summer and return to his own country. Calejjon initially was closely linked with La Liga side Atletico Madrid, but now it seems that several Premier Leageu clubs are keen on signing the winger this summer. Arsenal are the front-runners among the teams and they have apparently shown keen interest on signing the player.
Jose Callejon was a product of Real Madrid’s youth system and joined Real Madrid C side in 2006. He had joined the senior side in 2011 but was kept on the bench for majority of his stint. He was solt to Napoli in 2013. At Napoli, he played 111 matches in the last two seasons scoring 32 goals and provising 18 assists.
It is an interesting speculation as the Gunners have an array quality midfielders and wingers in their squad. The starting line up features players like Alexis Sanchez, Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil. Wingers like Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Serge Gnabry graces the Arsenal bench. Thus, buying a 28-year-old winger does not make much sense on Arsene Wenger’s part.
It will be an interesting issue in the coming days of the transfer window.
