For years, Arsene Wenger’s squad at the Emirates has often been criticized for a lack of a player who can dictate terms in the mid-field.
Arsenal squads over the past few season’s have lacked a genuine mid-fielder who can pull the strings in the middle of the pitch and can keep the game running forward and the manager seems to have finally realized the need for such a player.
With a very busy summer transfer window ahead of the club, Arsene Wenger has reportedly identified Swiss international Granit Xhaka as a potential star to turn things around at the club next season.
German newspaper Bild reported that the Gunners are keen on brining the star to Emirates next seson and are ready to meet the £30 million valuation of the player this summer. They are ready to make a move and want to snatch him up before other clubs can get their hands on him.
Reports from Sky Germany revealed earlier that the Gunner’s boss has already met with the father of the 23-year old in order to discuss a possible deal for this summer.
The Emirates franchise has struggled against teams that play with a high tempo and their need for an energetic mid-fielder has now seen them take the first step to sign this versatile mid-fielder.
Xhaka is viewed as one of the most promising holding midfielder’s in European football and a move to the Emirates Stadium would represent quite a coup for Arsene Wenger.
The 6’1” Borussia Monchengladbach mid-fielder is a technically astute player who is calm and composed on the ball and will fit into Wenger’s game easily.
He will dominate the mid-field for any team he walks into and at a tender age of 23, he will only get better the more games he plays in the league.
He has made more than 40 appearances for his national side already and has plenty of experience to go with his skill and talent.
Arsenal also need another replacement in a similar position with the likes of Mikel Arteta, Thomas Rosicky and Mathieu Flamini not extending their contracts that end this summer.
The likes of Liverpool were also interested in the youngster in January. But a deal never went through and the Gunners are now looking to take the first step towards signing him for the next season.
It will however be interesting to see if Xhaka can prove himself worth of his price tag in the Premier League.
