Arsenal are close than ever to agreeing on a new deal for their German maestro Mesut Ozil, said to be worth a staggering £51.5m according to a report from Football Insider.
The German assist king is in talks with the club hierarchy to increase his basic salary by a stunning £50k per week to around £180k. This means Ozil would become the highest paid player in the history of the club.
The German playmaker has really flourishing in English football, enjoying an extraordinary season with 12 incredible assists and two goals in the Premier League so far.
Football Insider claims despite Arsene Wenger claiming that the North Londoners will not initiate any contract talks with Arsenal’s first-team players until the new year but, behind the scenes, both parties have already started to succeed a new lucrative deal. It is understood that the discussions are centred on a five-and-a-half-year contract that will run until 2021 and will be worth £51.5m.
There are a number of top clubs keeping an eye on the situation, with both Bayern Munich and Turkish side Fenerbahce interested in the players services.
However, Wenger will not allow any move for the informed playmaker as he regards the 27-year-old German sensation as Arsenal’s key player for this season.
Though news on a contract extension is not being widely circulated, the early reports of a new contract for Ozil will surely be music to ears of the Arsenal fans.
Last month Ozil became the only player in the history of Premier League to record assist in six back to back games. Also, he is the fastest player ever in Premier League to ten assists in 11 matches. As if, there is an assist record and you will find Ozil’s name on top of it.
