The summer transfer window is now in full flow as teams around Europe are getting their deals done swiftly. Premier League club Arsenal seem to be in a never-ending search of an attacker and have been linked with a host of strikers in Europe recently.
However, they may also be on the verge of losing some of their stars. Read on for the transfer summary of the day for the Gunners:
The biggest news that engulfed the papers this morning was Bayern Munich’s interest in the Gunners defender. Laurent Koscielny has been one of the best defenders in the Premier League in the last couple of season but a break up in talks about his new contract at the Emirates has seen Bayern Munich admit their interest in the player.
The manager is keen for the French international to stay at the Emirates Stadium but talks over a new contract worth £90,000 a week have stalled and Bayern might be able to snatch him away this summer. Wenger must act quickly to keep hold of his prized possession.
Moving on, late in the day, the Gunners are close to a move for the Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi. Gazzetta dello Sport, an Italian newspaper ran a story saying that the 23-year old is frustrated in Serie A and with Arsenal reportedly tabling a bid upto £46 million, he may make the move this summer.
It will be an interesting move for the Gunners whose style of play will be easy for the Argentine to fit into. However at his age, though he has proven himself in Italy, he may not be the man that can take them to the next step.
The club’s chances of signing Gonzalo Higuain seem to reduce by the day with the Italian club now reportedly valuing the striker at £80million, a ludicrous amount even for Premier League standards.
Higuain is a decent striker who can easily improve the Arsenal squad but at his price, he may be under too much pressure a the club and may not be able to live up to the expectations.
In other news, the club are reportedly favorites to sign Bolton defender Rob Holding after preparing a £2.5m ($3m) bid for the 20-year-old.
The Sun reports that Arsene Wenger is a huge fan of the defender and considers him a potential superstar for the future.
The likes of Julian Draxler and Alexander Lacazette who were linked with the club in the last few days are no closer to a move to the Emirates. The manager has to act quickly if he wants to get his hands on any of the top class talent in Europe.
