Atletico de Kolkata, the franchise team that won the opening Indian Super League (ISL) last season, is all set to bring another heavyweight person in its administration as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the franchise club. He is Ivan Gazidis from Arsenal. Gazidis, the South African by nationality was a footballer in his early days and also had earned coaching degree, had played a major role in building up strategic plans in the Major League Soccer (MLS) twenty years ago. Gazidis was the president of Soccer United Marketing for a long time. The 50-year old man also helped Mexican Football Federation to promote CONCACAF Gold Cup. Gazidis who was brought up in Manchester since the age of his four came back to England and joined Arsenal as the club’s CEO in 2008. In his Arsenal job Gazidis also had to cross struggling days as all the Arsenal players booed Gazidis in the dressing room after he announced that the players would not be offered bonus after Arsenal won FA Cup, defeating Aston Villa 4-0 last Saturday.

One of the owners of Atletico De Kolkata, Sanjiv Goenka said, “In a bid to bring more professionalism in the administrative activities, we have decided to rope in Gazidis as the club’s CEO for this season.” ATK has already roped in Alberto Marrero, one of the experienced football scouts of Athletico de Madrid as sporting director of the team this season along with Bhaichung Bhutia as technical consultant with the purpose of making perfect recruitment of players this season.

Goenka also added, “We have built up a more formidable squad this season. The key factor behind the achievement is the recruitment of these two technical persons who were mainstream footballers in their respective countries. And we are also expecting to be League champion this season also.”
