Pep Guardiola is rumoured to be snubbing the Premier League top clubs and will sign a two-year contract extension with the German champions Bayern Munich.
The Spanish manager has long been linked to Manchester City who are desperate to bring in Guardiola to the Etihad and Chelsea were also reportedly tracking him earlier.
Apart from these two clubs, Arsenal and Manchester United have also been rumoured to be potential destinations, as Guardiola himself gave a hint that he had interest in both the team in his book, Pep Confidential.
His current three-year contract will end at the end of the season in July and this current situation has led to a lot of speculations.
The Bayern boss also has recently denied commenting over his future but is now surprisingly said to be close to agree a new contract to stay with the Bavarians until 2018.
According to Spanish media outlet Sport, 44-year-old Guardiola is now “very close” to accepting Bayern’s new offer of extension, snubbing offers from Premier League.
The former Barcelona manager after winning back-to-back Bundesliga titles, is reported to have desire to manage in Premier League but doesn’t think that moment has arrived.
The fact is that Guardiola and his wife Cristina is very much enjoying the lifestyle in Munich, as the Spaniard sees himself as part of the Bayern Munich family – the role will grow more with a new lucrative extended deal.
Though Bayern didn’t reach the Champions League final in each of the last two campaigns, the club’s hierarchy always have been supporting Guardiola. Bayern was always confident that he will not leave even after the end of this season, as CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge last September declared he is very much optimistic, “I am definitely optimistic that Pep will stay beyond June 30, 2016. We have a first-class team, a fantastic club, a great stadium and a wonderful city to offer,”
“The coach feels good. He has a good team. It helps to have Munich as a city. There’s a lot going for Pep Guardiola deciding for Bayern Munich. I want to win the Champions League again – with Guardiola in charge.”
For the last one or two months rumours were increasingly suggesting that Pep Guardiola is not interested in continuing with the Bavarians as he has already made his mind to move in English football. However, Bayern was told to be so desperate to convince Pep for a contract extension. Club’s honorary president Franz Beckenbauer also requested Guardiola to stay in Munich describing Pep and Bayern are made for each other, “I think he already knows this. He’s not going to leave Bayern waiting and decide at some point in April or May. It would be too let then. I expect it to come sooner.”
