We are not talking about Alexis Sanchez, rather it is Santi Cazorla who is set for a move to La Liga champions Atletico Madrid next summer. As per the reports from Spanish radio station Cadena Cope, talks between Arsenal and Atletico Madrid are in advance stages with the player having already said “YES” to the proposed move and has agreed the personal terms for a move next season.

Cazorla rose to fame while playing for Villarreal and Malaga in La Liga and joined Arsenal in 2012. Cazorla is enjoying his best season ever with Arsenal since moving to North London. In absence of Alexis Sanchez, Cazorla has taken the role of being the leader on the pitch and driving the Gunners to winning results this season with his goals and assists.

Cazorla’s stats speak for themselves this season. 6 goals in 24 appearances and he has created 57 chances for his side this season. Since the 2012-13 season, Santi Cazorla has the most number of assists in the league with 25. Despite all these impressive stats and numbers, Arsenal fans can not ignore the fact that he is Spanish and is in his 30’s.

I say that because, over the years we have seen a trend for the Spanish players to move back to La Liga once they reach the age of 30 or 31. Cazorla seems to be no different as he eyes a move to a star turned Atletico Madrid side who are fighting on the equal fronts with the giants Real ad Barcelona for last 2-3 seasons. Cazorla could add the vital cutting edge to Diego Simeone’s side and will further stalk up Atletico’s claim for being the La Liga champions.

Arsenal will be quick to look for replacement and reports coming in from Mirror suggests that James Milner tops Arsene Wenger’s wishlist as the Arsenal manager looks to sign Milner on a bosman transfer next summer. Rise of the young Gunner Francis Coquelin, return of Alexis Sanchez & Mesut Ozil with the presence of Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere will surely hamper Cazorla’s first team action from next season.

Having considered all the above factors, perhaps this is the best decision Cazorla can take at the moment. Arsenal fans might not like it as Cazorla has turned in to be one of the fan favorites this season, but Gunner fans will have to accept this fact and let go of Santi Cazorla.
