Chelsea are in talks with Spanish club Valencia over a loan deal for talented centre-back Aymen Abdennour, according to reports.
The Blues are in the market to sign a central defender before the close of the transfer window and they have failed so far despite their interest in a number of targets across Europe.
Aymen Abdennour has made only 24 appearances for Valencia since moving to the club last year from AS Monaco. Having missed out on the player last year, the Blues have renewed their interest in the Tunisian international.
Daily Telegraph claims that the Blues are trying to lure the defender from Valencia despite being linked with former defender David Luiz. Aymen Abdennour appears to be a more realistic target for the Blues as the deadline day comes to an end in the next few hours.
Chelsea have been linked with the likes of Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Torino’s Nikola Maksimovic but their respective clubs are keen to keep hold of their top defenders. The Blues have so far failed miserably in their pursuit to sign a new central defender.
Chelsea only has John Terry and Gary Cahill as their central defensive pairing and have Branislav Ivanovic who can play the role. The injury to Kurt Zouma meant the Blues are short of options in central defence and Conte is keen to make at least one key addition to their defence to add depth which could help him reshuffle the backline if needed.
