The Champions of England did not get off to the best start to their new campaign as they lost their star player N’ Golo Kante early in the transfer window to Chelsea.
They went on to become the first team to lose an opening days fixture in the campaign next to a title winning season after they went down to Hull City at the KC Stadium on Saturday.
But the club has finally announced some good news for the Leicester City fans to cheer about today.
It is now understood that star Algerian winger and PFA Player of the Year for the previous year, Riyad Mahrez has signed a new four-year contract that will keep him at the club till 2020.
The 25-year old was in sublime form in the previous season for the Foxes as he scored 17 goals and picked up 11 assists forming a deadly partnership with England international Jamie Vardy as the duo blew teams away throughout the season.
He also picked up a goal for himself in the first game of the season against Hull but it was not enough for his team to get even a point from the game.
This will come as great news for Claudio Ranieri’s side who managed to pin Jamie Vardy also down with a long-term contract earlier this summer. Apart from Vardy, Leicester City have managed to extend contracts of Wes Morgan, Kasper Schmeichel and Andy King along with Ranieri himself who signed a four-year contract at the start of the summer transfer window.
The Algerian winger was linked with a move to a number of clubs with Arsenal reportedly getting close to signing him.
There were plenty of rumors in the last few weeks saying that Mahrez has agreed on a deal join the Gunners and he was spotted in a Chelsea hotel ahead of a move to Stamford Bridge.
But the player revealed yesterday that just 3 or 4 clubs in Europe can lure him away from Leicester City and by the looks of it neither Arsenal nor Chelsea are from those elite group.
Leicester City will hope that this will improve the confidence of the players within the squad as he can now stop worrying about keeping his players away from the reach of cash-rich clubs in the league.
It will be interesting to see if the 25-year old will have a similar impact on the league like he did in the previous season.
