After the 1-1 draw with Swiss side FC Sion in Europa League, Liverpool has a big game this weekend as they travel across the town to face local rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby.

Although, it is called as ‘Friendly derby’, it has rarely shown instances of friendliness. Everton has 12 points from nine games compared to Liverpool’s 11. The two teams are placed fifth and ninth on the table respectively.

But momentum is with the Toffees due to their fine form in the last few weeks and also Liverpool’s frustrating form. Ahead of the match, Liverpool manaer Brendan Rodgers, who is under a lot of pressure right now, has talked to the press.

Here are Rodgers’ quotes ahead of the game.

Rodgers confirmed that there are no fresh injury concerns to Liverpool right now.

“No real change with injuries. Seeing how Benteke is over the course of next 24hrs. The squad will be pretty much same as Villa game.”

He also gave the reason why Daniel Sturridge was not in the squad against Sion.

“With so many games we have to make sure we look after Daniel Sturridge. He’s fresh and fit and looking forward to this weekend.”

He also said how special the derby is.

“These are fantastic games. My 4th season going to Goodison. We have played well there, been unfortunate not to win there.”

He said that the team is evolving and results will come soon.

“You can see the team is starting to evolve. We are creating a lot of chances. Now we need to start taking them. It’s a huge game.”

He also said that their current league position is not that bad as much as the fans are reacting.

“No more or less pressure on this game than I’ve had before.Reality is we’re only couple of points off top 4 and 5pts off the top.”

“We’re not giving away many opportunities, but we’re getting punished for mistakes. We need to cut out those mistakes.”

He also said that his side was unlucky not to win against Sion.

“We go into Sunday’s game with confidence. We have quality in this team. We should have won that game last night 4-1.”

He also said how important DanielSturridge to the team.

“You saw in the game last week Daniel’s quality. He’s so important for us. Top players give a team confidence. He has star quality.”

“We will always take the favourites tag if people want to put that on to us. We are Liverpool.”

Rodgers also commented about the boos from the fans.

“I respect that. There is frustration when you don’t win the game. You have to take it on the chin as manager and players.”

He also said that he is not worried about his future.

“It;’s not something I’m worried about. I’ll always work best I can. I’m not seeking any reassurances.”

He also said that he knows how important the game is to the fans.

“It’s another opportunity to get a victory. We respect that it will be a tough game. It’s one we want to win for our supporters.”

“Everton have done well. They are a point ahead of us. They’ve had a good start and we’ve had a disaster!”

He also said that the team has gone through a lot of changes and he is demanding fan support for their good performances.

“Over the past 12 months we’ve had to manage a lot of change and a lot of disruption. Winning games is key to having support.”

“It’s not about me, it’s about supporting the team. It’s still very early in the season. There’s lot of improvement still to come.”
