Arsenal have been linked with Paraguay international Miguel Almiron, according to the latest reports. Italian website Tutto Mercato Web has claimed that Arsenal are interested in the 22-year-old and have already placed a bid for him.
Almiron, who is primarily an attacking midfielder, currently plays for Argentinean club Lanus. He joined the Argentinean club last summer following an impressive season with Paraguayan side Cerro Porteno.
He managed to make 17 appearances for Lanus last season. We have supposedly made a £9.4m bid for the player, but Lanus are holding out for £11.1m for their player.
Now, it’s kind of hard of believing this rumour keeping in mind the wealth of midfield options we have at the moment. Following Arsenal’s transfer business last week, Arsene Wenger also hinted that he wouldn’t be signing anyone in the remaining days of the transfer window.
However, if the Gunners have a legitimate interest in the player, then he is certainly going to be one for the future.
Almiron has only made one appearance for his national team, so he would certainly struggle to get a work permit to play in England. In that case, he will be likely loaned out by us to some other European club.
But it’s hard to believe, at the moment, Wenger would like to spend around £10m on a player who won’t be able to add anything to our squad for a foreseeable future.
Arsenal have already overseen the busiest transfer window of the club’s history and have spent around £90m on transfers this summer. Anyways, there are only three days left in the transfer window now, and if there is any truth to this report, it will become clear soon enough.
Meanwhile, the Gunners’ new signing Shkodran Mustafi has confirmed in an interview with Sky Germany that he has signed a five-year deal for Arsenal. It’s a bank holiday in England on Monday, so expect to see the official confirmation at Arsenal.com on Tuesday.
