Chelsea are supposedly back in the race for their long term target, Gonzalo Higuain, who is currently plundering goals for fun in the Italian top division with Napoli. The player has been in constant spotlight ever since his playing time with Real Madrid where he had been having a consistent season after another. With frustration over his lack of playing time, the striker moved across to Napoli and had led the team to the Italian Cup and the Super Cup.
He came in along with Rafa Benitez as a replacement for the outgoing Edinson Cavani, who was also a target for Chelsea and still remains a player of interest for the Blues. The Argentine has taken to the league like a fish to water and has scored upwards of 20 goals every season when he’s led the line for the Naples club.
This season, he has taken it to another level as he already has notched up 20 goals in 20 appearances in what might be a memorable season for Napoli as the sit atop the Serie A table. The player has been supported by the likes of Vargas, Mertens and Hamsik during his stay.
With Chelsea relying heavily on Diego Costa, it is only a matter of time before Chelsea start making bids for striker all over Europe and they cannot do much worse than Higuain who is in the prime of his career.
The only downside will be the steep quoted price of 76 million sterling which is an eye watering amount for a player who will definitely not be having a sell on value anywhere near that in the future as he is already touching the thirties.
