In the third London Derby for Tottenham Hotspur in three Premier League games, Pochettino’s side will face the Blue half of London when they take on Chelsea at the White Hart Lane on Sunday in an early kick-off. Both teams have had contrast starts to their campaign with Tottenham losing just one game in this season and Chelsea languishing in the bottom half of the table.
The home side are sweating over the fitness of Eric Lamela who might make way for Mason in the middle of the park. Dele Alli will also not be available as he will be serving a one match suspension after picking up 5 yellow cards. For Mourinho, Terry and Ramires are doubtful for this clash as we can expect Kurt Zouma to take the skippers place. Matic may start in the mid-field for the Blues
Here is how Jose Mourinho will most likely play his team on Sunday.
Thibaut Courtois is still on the sidelines for Chelsea and is expected to return in a week or two. Begovic has not been too bad and will hold his place in between the posts.
The right back has not been in great form and has already cost his team some goals with his defending. But the manager will have to play him as he lacks real quality as a replacement.
Zouma has had a start stop campaign this season and has not impressed his manager. However, he will get his chance against Tottenham as skipper John Terry picked up an injury in the Champions League fixture.
Cahill has been a regular presence in the Chelsea back four and has at times bought calm to the proceedings. His experience will be needed for Chelsea when they take on the Spurs.
The Spanish full back has been a bright player for the Blues this season. He has been assured in defense and also provided plenty of width in attack and will have to be at his best on Sunday.
Matic was in top form last season but has not been up to his best so far this season. He is still a technically gifted player and will play in the holding mid-field area in the absence of Ramires.
Fabregas has also looked lethargic at times for the Blues this season but his experience and ability to find the right ball will be very useful at the White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Oscar has played behind the striker in recent games for Chelsea and will mostly start in that position against Tottenham. He will however inter-change with Willian and Hazard sitting just behind the striker and will have a huge role to play.
Willian has been the brightest start for Chelsea this season. He will be a sure started on Sunday and will mostly start from the right hand side cutting into the Tottenham defense. He will have to play a huge role if Chelsea are to over-come this Pochettino’s side.
Hazard has not been at his best this season but has shown glimpses of his skill in the last few games. He will have got plenty of confidence from his performance in the mid-week fixture and will trouble the Tottenham defense all night long.
The strong striker has not really been able to impose himself on his team this season and is soon running out of time. Mourinho will have to stick to him in the absence of Loic Remy and Falcao and will hope that he can produce the goods on the night.
Mourinho might also be tempted to use Pedro alongside his play makers and use a flat 4 in the mid-field with just holding mid-fielder. Oscar will most likely make place for Pedro who will start from the left with Hazard moving in centrally.
Begovic; Ivanovic, Zouma, Cahill, Azpilicueta; Matic; Willian, Fabregas, Hazard, Pedro, Costa.
This will be a very important match for Chelsea as a positive result in this derby can go a long way in reviving their season.
