Chelsea were given a scare by Football League outfit Burton Albion in Antonio Conte’s first ever match in England’s League Cup on Tuesday.
A brace from Michy Batshuayi and a goal from Victor Moses saw the Blues prevail on the night as they managed to win the game with a 3-2 score line.
The frailties in defence were clear for the fans to see even against a lower league outfit and the manager may have to look at adding a few players to his squad before the end of the transfer window.
One such player who Conte is now desperate to sign is Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.
It is understood that the Italian outfit want to sign Joao Mario from Sporting this summer and are ready to offload Brozovic this summer for €30m.
Chelsea, who have the likes of Cesc Fabregas, N’ Golo Kante, Nemanja Matic and John Obi Mikel fighting for a similar position want to add the 23-year old versatile midfielder to their squad.
The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool also showed interest in the player this summer but neither have followed up and tried hard to get their man. But it is now understood that Antonio Conte is ready to make a move for the Croatian international in the coming days.
According to reports, Conte is ready to offer John Obi Mikel to Inter Milan as a part of the deal to land Brozovic this summer.
The Chelsea midfielder who is just back from the Olympics, getting himself a Bronze medal, is not yet sure about his place in the squad and revealed recently that he will have to talk to Antonio Conte before deciding on his future.
So it now looks like the former Italian boss is ready to replace him with Brozovic in the midfield for the upcoming season.
At 23, the Croatian midfielder has a lot of time to prove himself and can easily be the best if he can cement his place at the Stamford Bridge.
