Chelsea set to sign Brazilian striker who is a Liverpool target

  • Chelsea are very close to signing Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato reports Mauro Cezar of ESPN Brazil. Pato has been strongly linked with Liverpool this season but Chelsea seems to have raced ahead of them in the race to sign the Corinthians man.

Pato himself reportedly favours a move to London and it seems that he will be getting his wish. Pato’s agent, Gilmar Veloz, had gone to China to negotiate a deal for another client Luiz Adriano and has used the trip as an opportunity to negotiate a deal for Pato.

Pato has been linked with every club in the English Premier League over the last few seasons and it seems that he will finally play in the Premier League. Pato initially made a name for himself at AC Milan and he was tipped to be the next big thing in Europe but injuries and bad form ensured that Pato’s career took a different path and he landed in his homeland.

Chelsea are in desperate need for a new striker as only 1/3rd of their goals have come from their forwards this season and manager Guus Hiddink wants to seal a deal for Pato as soon as possible. Pato was offered €140,000 per week to play for Tianjin Quanjian of China whereas Chelsea are paying the Brazilian around €50,000 only. In spite of this Pato favours a move to England and according to an Instagram post, he watched Chelsea play from the stands last night.

The only concern that Chelsea might have about Pato is his injury record. Chelsea themselves have two proven strikers in Remy and Falcao who are out because of injury and Chelsea wouldn’t another striker to suffer the same fate.

Pato’s odds of joining Chelsea are as low as ½ and it seems that it is a matter of time before the Brazilian joins the Blues. All parties are confident that the deal will happen.
