Premier League champions of the last season face a very tough summer ahead and an even tougher campaign next season with a number of things set to change at the club.

The club still needs to appoint a manager for the next season and with Conte not getting any close, they will have to find a good replacement for Hiddink who is set to leave the club this summer.

However, the biggest problem for the club on the field will be the lack of leadership on the field.

John Terry the skipper of the club and a leader on the field over the years is set to leave the club in the summer and this leaves Chelsea with a void to fill at the back.

And according to the Daily Star, the Blues have identified the player likely to take his place in the squad next season.

Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchina is set to be one of the hottest players up for sale in the summer and Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing the 28-year old.

Ranocchia who is presently on loan at Sampordia is set to be a free agent after the end of the season and a number of clubs are monitoring his status for a potential move in the summer.

English franchise Liverpool were interested in signing him in the January transfer window but a move never materialized and it is now understood that the Blues are ready to make an offer for the 28-year old.

Antonio Conte, the coach of the Italian national team is set to take over the Stamford Bridge outfit next season and he might like the idea of a re-union with his national squad player Ranocchia at the start of his new adventure in England.

Chelsea will also have to look at other alternatives even if the deal goes through as the other two defenders in the club at the moment do not look strong enough for a Champions League chasing outfit.

Cahill has had his problems in the past while Kurt Zouma is set to miss the start of the next season through an ACL injury. So making the move for the Italian international on a free transfer will be a viable option for the Blues in the summer.
