Chelsea are preparing a late bid for Manchester United target Pedro Rodriguez according to reports.
Manchester United were close to sign the Barcelona star but Jose Mourinho is trying to hijack the deal in the eleventh hour.
Pedro is not guaranteed playing time at Camp Nou with Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar in the team and the 28 year old is looking to move out of the club for regular game time.
However, it is believed that Manchester United have already agreed personal terms with the Spaniard and the move is only awaiting for the clubs to agree on a fee for him.
Chelsea started the season poorly with a draw against Swansea City and then a defeat against title rivals Manchester City and Mourinho wants to bolster his squad by signing the World Cup winner.
But Manchester United executive vice-chairman believes Woodward is still confident a deal will be done once the structure of payments is agreed.
Chelsea had an interest in the 28-year-old earlier in the summer but coach Jose Mourinho wasn’t sure.
Now, though, the Premier League champions are back on the scene with owner Roman Abramovich particularly keen on the player.
Pedro has been ready to join United for some time and is aware of the terms of a move to Old Trafford.
The longer they prevaricate over the finer points of a fee that must match the £22m buy-out clause in Pedro’s contract, however, the more the door remains open for one of their rivals.
Arsenal and Liverpool were also linked with Pedro earlier this window but the two giants have backed off now.
