French football expert and one of the most renowned journalists in the world Julien Laurens believes that Manchester United are in clear to sign the PSG striker Edinson Cavani and Laurens claims that United can sign the Uruguayan striker for as little as £40 million.

There have been recent reports which suggest that Cavani will be made available only after a bid of £60 million or higher but Laurens was quick to squash all those notions as the French football expert explained how Cavani is getting increasingly unhappy at the club by having to play either on left or right wing.

Manchester United are facing a striker crisis at the moment with Robin Van Persie tipped to leave Old Trafford next season and Falcao’s loan move has turned in to a disaster. Laurens believes that Cavani could be the ideal striker United needs right now. The PSG man has got the speed, skills and is one of the best finishers in world football at the moment.

Laurens highlighted that PSG cannot expect their full payment of £62 million on Cavani to return as the striker is itching for a move away from the club and PSG will have to accept a lower bid than what they invested to buy him from Napoli. Laurens understands that a £40 million bid would be enough to trigger a move for the star striker.

Speaking to talksport, Laurens said: “Edinson Cavani is a bit unhappy at PSG,” he told the Sports Bar. “He’s being played as a left or right winger but he’s not really happy.

“His agent has been looking around a bit and he would like to come and play in England. For Man United the Radamel Falcao experience hasn’t worked so they’ll be looking for another striker.

“Cavani is right up on their list and he would be willing to go there if the clubs could agree a deal. He won’t come cheap though.

“PSG bought him for £62m, he’s obviously not worth that anymore, but Man United could sign him for around £40m. It would be money well spent.

“He’s on around £200,000-a-week and he’d be happy with that at Man United. Without Falcao and Robin van Persie, Manchester United would easily be able to afford that.

“He’s not having a great season but he would be a very good signing for Manchester United.”
