Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger who have faced all the criticism for his lack of transfer activity earlier have actually tried to sign Ateltico Madrid super striker Antoine Greizmann earlier this summer. However, the deal could not take place because the French international is keen to stay in Spanish capital for the upcoming season.
An Arsenal source said: “Arsene and Griezmann held talks during the Euros about his situation.
“The player told him outright that he was happy in Spain, and his family were enjoying life there.
“There is still interest. Why wouldn’t there be in one of the best players in the world? But nothing will happen this summer at least.”
The Gunners then turned their interest to Bayern Munich star striker Robert Lewandowski and the Polish striker have also turned down Arsenal’s interest as he is keen to stay with German giants.
The 28-year old have scored 6 goals in the opening two games of the season and Bayern Munich are ready to offer him a massive contract which could see him stay at Allianz Arena for at least another five years.
Griezmann have a massive £85.5m buy-out clause and Lewandowski will cost around around £60m and Bayern will look to add £100m release clause in his new deal to ward off interest from other European clubs in the coming years.
After being snubbed by two of the best strikers in the world, Arsenal have managed to sign Lucas Perez from Spanish side Deportivo in a £17.1m deal. The player had a medical yesterday and have penned a four year contract with the Gunners.
