The Inaugural edition of the Indian Super League is just two months away and the franchises are getting everything in place ahead of the tournament. The Kolkata franchise which is jointly owned by the owners of Spanish Premiera Liga(Premier League) club Atletico Madrid and the Prince of Kolkata Sourav Ganguly had their name unveiled as “Atletico de Kolkata” a month ago. They also officially signed Spanish midfielder Borja Fernandez and Botswana midfielder Ofentse Nato soon after.
Last Week, the team owners announced the signing of their icon player Luis Garcia. On Monday, the franchise held a promotional event in which they named their coach, unveiled their Logo and Jerseys for the inaugural edition.
Antonio Lopez Habas has been roped in as the coach of the team and will be assisted by his deputy Jose Ramirez. The Logo which was unveiled had the stripes of a Bengal Tiger inside the shield which resembled Atletico Madrid’s logo and a winged Royal Bengal Tiger positioned at the top. The logo symbolizes power, magnificence and fierceness of the Royal Bengal Tiger.
The five stars that form a circle in tandem with the Tiger’s wing-span represent the five owners of Atletico de Kolkata, namely Sanjiv Goenka, Sourav Ganguly, Harshavardhan Neotia, Utsav Parekh and Atletico de Madrid.The yellow-gold combination was applied for the winged-tiger and the five stars. It was rumoured that the Royal Bengal Tiger was added as a token of respect for former Indian Cricket Team Captain and Team Owner Sourav Ganguly.
The home jersey was unveiled by Honourable Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Bannerjee and Sourav Ganguly. The jersey had the red and white stripes of Atletico Madrid.
