Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United have kept their Europa League dreams alive as they managed to come out of the second leg in the Round of 32 of the Europa League at Saint Etienne earlier this week.

The Red Devils are not too far away from a place in the top-4 in the points table and the manager will hope that his side can keep up the good work to try and take them to the Champions League next season.

The second tier Europa League competition also give Manchester United a chance to qualify for Europe as the winners of the competition are drawn in Pot 1 of the next year of the competition.

So Mourinho will hope that they can walk as far as they can in their journey to the Europa League title.

After the victory over Saint Etienne, Manchester United were drawn a tricky game against FC Rostov, a Russian football outfit. For anyone who have not heard much about them, here is everything you need to know about Manchester United’s Round of 16 opponents in the Europa League.

Founded in 1930, Rostov’s home stadium, Olimp-2 holds upto 16,000 people and is one of the most reputed football clubs in Russia.

They are being managed by 64-year old Ivan Daniliants who was promoted from an assistant’s post in the summer. Daniliants is an experienced managed in the country, having already helped the likes of Rubin Kazan and Moldova to glory.

The Russian outfit are currently in the 7th place in the points table in the domestic league in Russia, after 17 games, and will restart their domestic season after the winter break in a fortnight.

The previous season was their best in the history of the club, as they managed to finish in the 2nd place, just behind CSKA Moscow, the Champions of Russia.

In the past, Rostov have managed to lift the Russian National League, the second tier domestic league,  in 2008 and won the Russian Cup in 2014.

In all their previous seasons, Rostov have qualified for Europe for just the 4th time this season and the Round of 16 of the Europa League is the farthest they have come in Europe’s elite competitions.

Having qualified for the Champions League, Rostov were drawn against the likes of Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and PSV Eindhoven. That is after beating Ajax and Anderlecht in the qualifiers.

They got the better of the Dutch outfit and managed to finish 3rd in the table, earning a way into the Europa League.

The Russian outfit were drawn against Sparta Prague in the previous round of the Europa League which they won 5-1 on aggregate.

They are a team that are proving hard to beat and Manchester United should be at their best to progress in this competition.

United travel to Russia to face Rostov in the first leg of this tie in the second week of March.
