Jurgen Klopp’s first full season at Anfield quickly went down hill after his side managed to pick just one victory from a fixture-packed month of January. This run of results saw them slide down the points table and they were also knocked out of the League Cup and the FA cup in space of a few days.
However, the victory over the Spurs will give them renewed confidence and the manager will hope that they can stay in from till the end of the season to try and get into the top-4 in the point table.
The manager has made some sensible moves in the summer and has laid an importance on keeping core players at the club for the long term. So though Klopp has been looking at transfer targets, he has got some of his main players to sign long term contracts with the club since taking over Anfield.
After Brazil playmaker Philippe Coutinho signed a bumper deal that made him the club’s highest earner, Jurgen Klopp has now got another integral member of the squad tied down to the long term.
England international and Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has now signed a new long-term contract at Anfield and will stay at the club till 2020.
The ‘Player of the Year’ for the national team in 2016, Lallana is currently in the middle of a purple patch and is one of the most important players for Jurgen Klopp this season.
His energy and understanding of the game have gone down well with Klopp’s style of play and this has turned the former Southampton skipper into a more productive player in front of goal.
Speaking to the media after the deal, Lallana said, ‘I’m very proud and feel quite humbled by the show of faith from the club and the manager in particular.’
“This is a really good place to be at the moment and, for a player who wants to be part of something special, I can’t think of a better club to commit your future to,” he added.
At 28, Lallana is in his prime as a football and has been linked with a move to PSG and Barcelona in the recent past. And though it never was an option for Klopp to sell him, Lallana has committed his long-term future to the Merseyside outfit.
Reports suggest that Lallana will earn £110,00-a-week on his new contract at Anfield which will run for another three years. Liverpool have also added a clause in the contract that allows them to extend his deal for another year if they want to.
The Liverpool manager also spoke about this new deal and said, “This is fantastic news for the club because Adam is a great player and an even better person. I am so pleased that we will spend more time together now and have this common future with LFC trying to be successful here.”
“Adam is a natural leader and is so, so important to our team and also in the dressing room. Maybe on the outside his leadership is not seen as much as we see it each and every day at Melwood in everything he does,” he added.
This deal will make the midfielder one of the highest paid at the club and Klopp will can now turn their attention towards other stars who might put pen to paper in the near future.
Defender Dejan Lovren and midfielder Emre Can are both in line for new deals and Liverpool fans will hope that an announcement is due anytime soon.
