The Senegalese international is a top target for the Blues as new manager Antonio Conte is keen to land the young defender to resolve the defense issues Chelsea are facing.
The 24-year old is one of the best defenders in Serie A last season and also arguably the best defender in Serie A outside Juventus. This has led to a lot of interest from Chelsea who are looking to sign a central defender before the end of the summer transfer window.
The Blues were considered favorites to land him as they have been launching a series of bids in an attempt to sign the defender. However, Napoli who have already sold their star striker Ginzalo Higuain to Juventus in a record £75 million are reportedly not interested to sell anymore of their stars in this summer.
Chelsea have reportedly offered a massive £50 million to sign the defender which was rejected by Napoli earlier as the club is reportedly not interested in more money as they look to build their team for the season.
The new deal meant the player would be earning a lot more than his previous contract and the club will be increasing the buy-out clause to ward off interest from Chelsea. The Blues will now have to look at alternatives as they are already lining up a bid for Torino’s defender Nikola Maksimovic.
