Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes only Sergio Aguero is a better striker in the Premier League than Daniel Sturridge. Sturridge, who returned from a long injury, 37 goals in 57 appearances for Liverpool in the Premier League with quite a few of them coming as a substitute.

Sturridge scored twice in Liverpool’s 3-2 win against Aston Villa in his second game after returning from injury. James Milner gave them an early lead.  Daniel Sturridge doubled Liverpool’s lead after a brilliant finish from a beautiful James Milner pass. Aston Villa’s Gestede scored form Hutton’s cross in the hope of bringing Villa back to the game,  but soon Sturridge scored his second goal from a Philippe Coutinho’s pass. Gestede scored his second too late in the game, but that wasn’t enough to earn Aston Villa any points at Anfield.

“He has the coolness in front of goal and if Liverpool can get him fully fit and firing it’s only really [Sergio] Aguero who is a better striker than him in the league,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“In the first half against Villa he looked like a player coming back to fitness but he came alive in the second half. He is the icing on the cake and can provide that class finish.

“The rest of his game doesn’t involve too much but he makes a massive difference at that end of the pitch for Liverpool.

“There were great signs with the partnership with Ings.”
