Liverpool are closing in on Shakhtar Donetsk attacking midfielder Alex Teixeira, says ESPN Brazil. It was speculated that Liverpool will be keen to repair the leaky defence, but rather they have gone for another offensive player. ESPN Brazil reveals that the talks are ongoing and a deal could be secured soon.
However, the price for the 26-year-old is yet to be finalised with the Merseyside club willing to offer 32 million Euros while the Ukrainian club needs minimum 50 million Euros.
Teixeira joined Shakhtar in 2010 and has made 222 appearances for the club across all competitions scoring 89 times. He has also won the Ukrainian Premier League five times.

Nonetheless, Liverpool is keen to bring the Brazilian home and may be willing to accept the price demanded by Shakhtar. The owner of Shakhtar, Rinat Akhmetov is one of the richest man in Ukraine but is infamous in being strict on transfer fees. It was evident during the sale of Willain to Chelsea, Fernandinho to Manchester City and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Borussia Dortmund.
So it is expected of Liverpool to pay big, if they have to land the player.
Shaktar bought Alex Teixeira six years ago from Vasco da Gama for six million Euros. He has been in terrific form in front of goal this season, scoring 26 goals in as many games.
