Liverpool stand in skipper Jordan Henderson future is in major doubt after he rejected a £80,000 per week contract offer. According to Daily Star, Chelsea are keen on signing the England international with his current deal expiring next summer. As things stand, Liverpool are very likely to finish outside top 4 and Henderson might demand a move if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
In a recent intervview, Henderson vowed to stay at Anfield for years to come and admitted contract negotiations are not a major issue for him.
“It’s definitely not [a major issue],” Henderson said. “I love playing football for Liverpool and I want to be there for many years.
“In terms of my contract, I think everybody else will make a big deal of it but for me it’s just letting my agent and the club deal with it and whenever it gets sorted, it gets sorted. All I want to do is my best for club and country.”
Brendan Rodgers might lose two of his key players in the summer as Raheem Sterling also rejected a contract offer. Earlier reports in Telegraph suggested Brendan Rodgers is ready to sell Raheem Sterling at a minimum of £50 million. Sterling will be demanding a five-year deal of £200,000 a week that would take the total cost of signing him in excess of £100m. It seems Liverpool are not ready to bow down to Sterling’s huge wage demands, and are willing to sell him for a high fee or force him to stay another year on his existing £35,000-a-week.
