Shakhtar Donetsk’s Alex Teixeira is enjoying a prolific form this season but wants to move away from the Ukrainian side as early as possible and Sky Sports reports, he is preferring Liverpool over Chelsea.
The Chelsea and Liverpool target Brazilian has even told Shakhtar that he wants to leave the club this January. Both the Premier League giants are battling for long time to secure the service of the 26-year-old lethal attacker who has netted 26 goals in 25 matches this season.
He said in an interview recently: “I would like to move in this transfer window and have told them [Shakhtar] that. They have received a very good offer and they are working on a solution. But if I don’t go now then I will leave in the summer.
“After six years with Shakhtar we are ready to move and I have spoken to my wife and daughter.”
However, Shakhtar have set a £37million price tag for their star performer but it is believed Teixeira has requested his club officials to move for a compromise after they rejected Liverpool’s £25million offer last week.
Although Liverpool are still following the original bid of £30m plus add-ons and they still have a week in hand to come to an agreement with Shaktar, but despite the current stalemate between the two clubs, Teixeira made it clear he wants an early switch to put an end to all the uncertainties.
However, Shakhtar wanted to keep a hold on Teixeira for the rest of their domestic season, which starts again in March after the winter break, but the Ukrainian side’s exit from Champions League has now opened the door for their high-value asset, who also has revealed he wants to play in England.
The Brazilian is now keen for a switch to the Premier League this January as he is looking to break into the national team after consistently performing in the club level.
He further said: “It is my desire to move to a big league and I know that the English league is very strong. I am ready and I know that I will grow up a lot there.
“I am aware that two big clubs such as Liverpool and Chelsea are interested but I haven’t given my word to either of them.”
On the other hand, Chelsea reportedly confident enough to beat Liverpool for the signing of Alex Teixeira. The struggling Blues have long been linked with the prolific attacker, and everybody knows they made a late move to land Willian beating Tottenham in 2013. These circumstances seem quite similar this time also, and Chelsea believe they could be successful to upset their rivals here. They regard Teixeira as the only man who can provide the missing firepower, even though the Brazilian attacker is not an out-and-out striker.
Last week Liverpool MD Ian Ayre visited Shakhtar’s winter training camp in Florida to start talks with the Ukrainian club’s officials. Whereas Chelsea have been negotiating their deal with Shakhtar since last December.
The report from Sky Sports also suggests Teixeira sees his compatriots Phillipe Coutinho and Lucas Leiva as two of his best friends and would love to join them at Anfield becoming Jurgen Klopp’s second signing of the January window if a deal can be succeeded before the February 1 deadline.
