Louis van Gaal’s men squandered a chance to go to the top of Group B in the Champions League as they were held to a 0-0 draw by PSV Eindhoven at the Old Trafford. They now find themselves in need of another result at Wolfsburg to make sure they qualify for the next round. Eindhoven are placed 3rd after this draw just 2 points off the leaders Wolfsburg.

Here are the player ratings for the Manchester United vs Wolfsburg game:

Manchester United:

David de Gea (3): Did not have a lot to do on the night and kept out the few shots thrown at him with command.

M Darmian (3): Defended soundly all night as he gave the PSV wingers no space on the flank. Could have done a lot better going forward.

C Smalling (2.5): Had little defending to do and played almost as a mid-fielder. But was caught in possession too many times.

M Rojo (2.5): A shaky game at the back for the Argentine as he gave away the ball cheaply and also struggled with the visitors counter attacks.

D Blind (3.5): Was smart in his distribution from the back and played sensibly at the centre of United’s defense.

J Lingard (3.5): The brightest United player on the field, Lingard missed a glorious opportunity in the second half but toiled away all night.

B Schweinsteiger (3): Was exquisite with his distribution from the back but could not keep up with PSV’s attacks when defending.

M Schneiderlin (3): Like his mid-field partner, Schneiderlin was good with his passes and long balls up front but did not do well enough to defend the visitors attacks in front of the back four.

A Martial (3): Has a couple of chances to give van Gaal’s men the lead which he failed to take. Also held the ball up well beautifully for his team mates.

W Rooney (2.5): Started the game well linking with his team mates but was lost in the second half when he had to play centrally in the mid-field.

M Depay (2.5): Wasted possession far too many times with his wayward passing and was looking lethargic all night as he failed to have any impact on the game.

A Young (3)

M Fellaini (3)

J Mata (3)

PSV Eindhoven:

J Zoet (3.5): Made a number of crucial saves to deny the home side all three points from this game.

S Arias (3): United put loads of pressure down his flank and got the better of him but his attacking play was decent at the other end.

J Bruma (3.5): Was at the right place at the right time for the whole game making clearance after clearance relieving pressure on his defense time and again.

J Brenet (3): Was a live wire at both ends of the field as he defended the back post solidly and also gave his front line plenty of service from the flank.

H Moreno (3.5): An assured game in the center of the defense as he made a couple of blocks to deny Untied a goal scoring opportunity.

A Guardado (4): A man of the match performance from the midfielder as he surged forward with the ball a number of times giving United something to think about at the back.

J Hendrix (3): Was ever present in PSV’s midfield and made a number of tackles before being subbed off.

D Propper (3.5): Tested the United defense with his directness and also tested de Gea with some stinging shots.

L de Jong (3.5): Did a superb job up front for the visitors as he held the ball up and created a number of half-chances for his teammates.

L Narsingh (-): Lasted just 18 minutes before picking up an injury.

J Locadia (3): His biggest contributions on the night were when he was defending set-pieces. Was also a threat on the counter.
