Manchester United have identified their spot of weakness and are acting up quickly to assure their long term defensive prospects. The club earlier today have announced the contract extensions for young defenders Tyler Blackett and Reece James.

Tyler Blackett has signed a new contract with Manchester United which will keep him at Old Trafford until 2017. The club has an option of extending the deal for another year. The news will come as a sign of relief for United fans as there were suggestions that Blackett would turn down the contract offered to him.

Louis Van Gaal has been known to promote youth to his previous clubs in charge. The manager showed his happiness of Blackett’s new deal by saying:

“I am delighted that Tyler has signed a new contract.

Tyler has great potential, he is another young player that has risen through the Academy system to break into the first-team squad this season.

Blackett was keen to show his delight on his new contract and said:

“I’m thrilled to have signed my new contract. I have supported United all my life and have been here since I was eight years old.

To come through the Academy and make my debut this season was a dream come true.

Manchetser United had another good news for the fans as Blackett’s fellow squad member Reece James has signed his contract extension as well. Reece James burst on to the scene with his explosive performances in United’s pre-season tour to the United States. James’s progress was upheld due to the injury he suffered early in the season.

James, who can play at Left Back, Left Wing or in midfield has extended his contract beyond 2016. Club is yet to announce the details of James’s deal but his extension has been confirmed by the club on their official website.

United kept on working on their defensive problems as it emerges Louis Van Gaal is ready to bid for Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane. The French international is worth between £25-28 million and Van Gaal is ready to table a £30 million bid for Varane, whose first team action has been limited this season.
