Manchester United stunned every one in Europe by spending over £150 million in the summer transfer window. Manager Louis Van Gaal brought the likes of Angel Di Maria, Radamel Falcao, Ander Herrera, Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo to strengthen his side. It seems that it was not enough, as fans around the world can prepare themselves for yet another mega summer of transfer activities by Manchester United.
Red Devils, backed by their new Adidas kit deal worth £750 million and with their share of recently concluded £5 Billion premier league TV rights are preparing for a £245 million transfer drive in the summer. Speaking of the targets, Manchester United have made it quite public about their preferred target. An article explaining United’s target was published on their official website – manutd.com.
When its a matter of £245 million, targets have to be superstars and reports coming from Spain suggest that Manchester United have made Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale their top targets for the summer. United will look to exploit the current situation at Madrid where the mentioned superstars are facing internal rifts with the club and fans are turning against them quicker than expected.
United’s official website stated Van Gaal’s wish to go out and but a mid field player. Van Gaal is looking for a player who can bring some balance to his squad filled with attacking players. Van Gaal was asked about the probablity of United buying a midfield player in the summer.
Van Gaal replied:
“I am looking for balance and I need balance in midfield. When I play with [Adnan] Januzaj and [Angel] Di Maria in the midfield positions, then you need a certain balance for that kind of creative player.
“So, when you have these creative players, and also [Radamel] Falcao and [Robin] van Persie are creative players, then you have four creative players and you have to look for balance in your team.”
These comments indicate Van Gaal’s intent of signing a power house in the mid field thus it will surely re-surface the rumors of Kevin Strootman, Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba joining Van Gaal’s revolution at Old Trafford. Mats Hummels, Marquinhos, Diego Godin, Miranda will get certain mentions as United need to find defensive cover for their side.
Add to these names there is growing belief around Old Trafford about securing either Bale or Ronaldo from Real Madrid if not both. Manchester United have managed their books flawlessly in the past 2-3 decades. It will allow them to spend over £245 million in the summer without selling any of their current superstars and yet keep up with UEFA’s financial fair play rulings.
If you couple United’s financial relaxations and mega new sponsor deals with Man United’s global appeal and a route back to the Champions League, no footballer in the world will say NO to United. It all indicates to thing that Van Gaal could have a monster of a squad at his disposal when 2015-16 season kicks off.
