La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are reportedly making a surprise move for Watford striker Ighalo in the January transfer window.
According to reports, the outfit has watched the striker many times closely this season and are willing to make an offer in January to acquire his services.
Ighalo is being considered as an apt replacement for Jackson Martinez, who has recovered from an injury.
Diego Simeone isn’t impressed with Jackson since his arrival in summer and is ready to offload the Colombian next month itself.
Diego is looking to bring in Ighalo for a £12m fee from Watford as the striker has been in exceptional form this season.
The Nigerian forward has scored 14 goals till now and Madrid have watched him at least five times this season.
Meanwhile, Jackson Martinez has been linked with a loan move to Tottenham and Chelsea and due to this Atletico are looking for other strikers.
Martinez has struggled to make an impact at Madrid till now.
The Spanish club have a good relationship with Udinese, owned by the Pozzo family, who are behind Watford’s promising rise in the Premier league.
Watford will be determined not to sell Ighalo, who has nurtured a beautiful link up-front with co-striker Troy Deeney.
Quique Sanchez Flores, Watford Manager, is reluctant to let go of Ighalo and has confirmed that Ighalo will not leave for any price in the January transfer window.
Ighalo’s 14th goal of the season went for a losing cause against Tottenham and this goal was his sixth successive goal in league matches.
Seeing his excellent form, Italian club Roma are also reportedly trying for Ighalo to enhance their goal-scoring and also to reduced burden on Edin Dzeko.
Ighalo already has experience playing in Italy, when he played for Udinese and Cesena with a loan spell at Granada.
The striker would do better to stay in England as he is in fine form and Watford is sitting comfortably at 7th position in the premier league table due to his exploits.
