Manchester United have revealed their list of retained and released players from their squad ahead of next season. Old Trafford have decided to release 5 of their U-21 squad players including the highly rated central defender Tom Thorpe.
Thorpe played and captained Manchester United youth teams across all the different levels except their senior side. Thorpe was seen as one of the stars of the United academy but in a strange decision, United have decided to let him leave the club.
Louis Van Gaal and other coaching staff at the club must be hoping that, they are not making the same mistake with Thorpe, what they did by letting Gerrard Pique and Paul Pogba leave for virtually nothing.
Among others is yet another player who never fulfilled his immense promise in Tom Cleverley. The English midfielder has already agreed to join Everton after July 1, when his current United contract expires.
Cleverley is a former Premier League winner with the red devils. Cleverley was once tipped as the ideal replacement for Paul Scholes but over the years, his form has dipped drastically. Cleverley spent last season on loan at Aston Villa.
Goal keeper Ben Amos has also been told to leave the club after failing to break in to United’s playing 11 during his spell at the club. Fellow U-21 defender Callum Evans and Ryan McConnell have also been released by the club as they begin to look ahead for next season.
